Prisma Festival;
There's this hill where I'm from, highest point outside of the mountains. Gets you up above the colony lights, away from everything. Stargazer Hill, so whoever named it was pretty creative. Anyway, there's this festival every year when we're in Yavin Prime's shadow, cut off from the sun. It gets pretty cold, and there'd be water crystals all freezing in the upper atmosphere.

The night before the sun came back, we'd all head up to Stargazer Hill and light these big bonfires, cook out under the stars, make plans for the year, tell stories. Stay out all night. And then the sun would come back. All those water crystals would turn the sunrise into a something as close to magic as I thought I'd ever see.

Lit the whole moon up in rainbows. Only lasted a few minutes, but those few minutes made it the most beautiful place in the galaxy.

Snow;
I thought I was ready for it. Big hero, brand new on Hosnian Prime and going to the northern Naval Academy. I'd read about ice planets, seen holos--I thought, eh, won't be that special. My bunkmate--he was from Konkiv, which was even hotter than Yavin 4--he woke me up in the middle of the night, after the seasons started turning, and there it was, coming down. He was so excited. We both were. The way it caught the light, how quiet the world was? I'd never heard it so quiet in my life. So there we were, two jungle idiots, running outside barely wearing more than what nature gave us and we got locked out. The other guys in our room wouldn't let us back in until we sang three versus of the New Republic Anthem and our feet started turning blue.

Piracy and Civilian Defense;
[The pirates] were less exciting, after the first time it happened. He’d been eleven and one of the community buildings burned down with three people trapped inside. He’d started flying local defense when he was fifteen, and downed his first enemy shortly before his sixteenth birthday. That’s a day he’ll never forget, and not because of the short-lived triumph of victory.

Naval Academy/Military Career
The longest I've been grounded in my life was the Naval Academy. I almost dropped out, because doing flight sims instead of the real thing was driving me insane.

He accidentally played hooky from bootcamp by locking himself in a closet.

PERSONALITY
strengths:

love of the universe: He truly, truly cares about people. They’re his everything, in a way, the reason that fighting is worthwhile. There’s a lot about his life that he views as almost inevitable. War, probably death. But he defines himself by who he serves, the ideals he believes in, and the people he wants to protect. He’s turned his pilots back to fight a pirate fleet to save murderous convicts (Poe Dameron 6: Lockdown, Part III), runs out of hiding to try and save a man who’s already dead (The Force Awakens), and tells C-3PO no one is expendable when the droid offers to sacrifice himself to help Poe escape a bad situation (Poe Dameron 12: The Gathering Storm, Part V).

team-oriented: Counter to what people seem to think, he’s humble in spite of his confidence. He regularly insists that every pilot he works with is his equal, particularly when they try to put him on a pedestal, and reinforces the necessity of having a good team at every opportunity (I’m not citing all the places this happens JUST TRUST ME). He has a sharp sense of humor, but one that’s kindly used. He’s a caretaker, which is part of what makes him such a good commander—he knows his people, and people in general, well enough to tell when they’re hurting or withdrawing, and will make his presence known as a confidant without pushing anyone to say what they’re not ready to.

solution-oriented: Arguably, he thrives on crises. Regularly demands action of both himself and his peers. . If there’s nothing he can do about a problem, he’ll find something else to work on. Whether it’s upgrading a ship or scrubbing out an entire landing bay, doing anything is better than sitting on his hands and waiting for a solution to present itself.

weaknesses:

obsessive: His dedication to the Resistance borders on the fanatical, a dedication that’s beginning to cause internal conflict with his passion for life. It’s hard to deal with “necessary sacrifices” when every sacrifice feels like a personal failing. The other side of that is the fact that he can find reason to pin almost every death, loss, or failure on the First Order (even while blaming himself), reinforcing his need to bring them down (Before the Awakening; Poe Dameron 13: The Gathering Storm, Part VI). His passion for justice has an unhealthy tendency to lapse into hate, but he also values a person’s actions over their history. Finn, for example—a tool of the First Order, but also the embodiment of the possibility for goodness to survive in dark places.

impulsive: His love of creation outstrips his sense of self-preservation. He acts without always thinking through the personal consequences (see his reaction to watching Lor San Tekka get murdered by Kyle Ron at the beginning of TFA). He'll put himself at risk for someone else's sake instantly, without caring whether or not it might get him killed. Ninety-five percent of the time, his instincts are good — but when they’re bad, they’re really bad.

emotionally Isolated: He doesn’t think about life after victory. It could be said he lives for the moment, but the truth of it is simply that he can’t contextualize himself in a galaxy without war. That’s part of the reason he gets close to people fast, and calls his squadrons family, but avoids the commitment of a significant other. Connections are important - but the likelihood of losing those connections is high enough that it’s best to stick to people who face the same risks you do.

HISTORY
Poe’s life has been pretty much steeped in war. Born near the end of the Rebellion against the Galactic Empire, Poe’s first two years were spent in the care of his grandfather, while his mother Shara Bey flew an A-Wing fighter for the Rebellion and his dad, Kes Dameron, served as Pathfinder special forces. His parents retired not long after the Battle of Endor, where the second Death Star was destroyed, but the legacy of their service colored Poe’s life. Though neither of his parents spoke much about their own service, Poe’s father was more than willing to share stories about the heroics of others, and Poe got second-hand accounts of his mother’s battles from her fellow pilots. Until his mother died, he thrived on the adventures of the Rebellion, the great feats and narrow escapes of Rebel heroes.

Shara Bey started to take Poe flying with her when he was three. He’d sit on her lap, her hands covering his, guiding him as they flew her old A-wing together. She died when he was eight years old. It was Poe’s first real encounter with death, and it changed his perspective on the stories his father and his mother’s friends had told him. War became a dangerous beast, not exciting stories told before bed. Perhaps as a result of grief, Poe’s father opened up about the war, about his experiences, and about his fear that things weren’t over and that darkness of the Empire would return. That left an indelible print on Poe, as young as he was. It was only reinforced by the fact that all he had left of his mother was flight and war stories. As he got older and the rumors about the First Order started to circulate, Poe couldn’t help remembering what his father said when he was nine—that Kes Dameron feared all the Rebels had done was for nothing.

Following in his mother’s footsteps, and with his father’s words echoing in his head, Poe joined the New Republic Navy. He distinguished himself in his own right became a Commander and leader of his own starfighter wing. In the pursuit of his duties, he tangled with a First Order raiding party as they attacked a cargo vessel and lost one of his pilots. The New Republic told him to let it go, that there was nothing he could have done, that there was no proof it was the First Order. Poe didn’t accept any of those things. On his last routine patrol for the New Republic, he went AWOL, looking for signs that the First Order had violated their peace treaty with the New Republic. On returning to the base he was put on leave— and recruited by General Leia Organa for the Resistance. Without that act of defiance, his life would be very different. He might even be dead, killed along with the majority of the New Republic and its citizens at the hands of the First Order. As it is he’s close to outliving his mother, which is a thought he tries very hard not to focus on.

character specific

Cassian Andor - His cousin. They grew up close, and Cassian is half the reason Poe decided to move to Wayward Pines after being discharged. Cassian is younger than him but, ANNOYINGLY, TALLER. And frequently ruffles Poe's hair to remind him of this fact.
Caroline Forbes- Poe's ex. They had a casual and then not-so-casual relationship over the course of his visits to Wayward Pines, until he broke it off using the excuse of distance and time separated.

DOSSIER

HISTORY: THE GREAT WOOKIEPEDIA

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S STRENGTHS?:

He’s passionate, loyal, and has a love for creation that outstrips his sense of self-preservation.

Counter to what people seem to think, he’s humble in spite of his confidence. He regularly insists that every pilot he works with is his equal, particularly when they try to put him on a pedestal, and reinforces the necessity of having a good team at every opportunity (I’m not citing all the places this happens JUST TRUST ME). He has a sharp sense of humor, but one that’s kindly used, and he frequently turns it on himself. He’s a caretaker, which is part of what makes him such a good commander—he knows his people, and people in general, well enough to tell when they’re hurting or withdrawing, and will make his presence known as a confidant without pushing anyone to say what they’re not ready to. He’s incredibly patient with people, for all that he’s impatient in general, wanting to act as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

He’s getting better about that. Slowly. And he does have a strategic mind, in spite of projecting the attitude of Idiot Hotshot. He’s proven himself politically (Poe Dameron 13), and in terms of his operational planning skills and ability to adapt (Poe Dameron 6). As he puts it, “It’s all flying, and I can fly anything.”

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S WEAKNESSES?:

Well, for one thing his love of creation outstrips his sense of self-preservation. He’s impulsive to an almost dangerous degree, acting without always thinking through the personal consequences (see his reaction to watching Lor San Tekka get murdered by Kyle Ron at the beginning of TFA). Ninety-five percent of the time, his instincts are good — but when they’re bad, they’re really bad.

His dedication to the Resistance borders on the fanatical, a dedication that’s beginning to cause internal conflict with his passion for life.

He doesn’t think about life after victory.

WHAT EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES IN YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST HAVE IMPACTED THEM THE MOST?:

His parents’ service, the death of his mom, and his last mission flying for the New Republic. As he got older and the rumors about the First Order started to circulate, Poe couldn’t help remembering what his father said when he was ten—that Kes Dameron feared all the Rebels had done was for nothing.

He might even be dead, killed along with the majority of the New Republic and its citizens at the hands of the First Order. As it is he’s close to outliving his mother, which is a thought he tries very hard not to focus on.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR CHARACTER?: Gestures vaguely up toward the rest of the app.

But really. Beyond the motivations of his parents’ history and his own deep-seeded hate for the Empire and its tenets, he truly, truly cares about people. They’re his everything, in a way, the reason that fighting is worthwhile. Fighting is the thing he’s done all his life, whether it was as a child reimagining the battles of his parents and their peers, or as an adult joining the Navy. There’s a lot about his life that he views as almost inevitable. War, probably death. But he defines himself by who he serves, the ideals he believes in, and the people he wants to protect. People are his motivation.

WHAT IMPRESSION DO OTHERS TEND TO HAVE OF YOUR CHARACTER?:

He’s a smug, cocky, reckless jackass who can’t get through a hairy situation without making a bad joke. His reputation as the best pilot in the Resistance is starting to spread, and it doesn’t always do him favors. People think he’s arrogant or proud, that he talks himself up, and that there isn’t much going on between his ears.

IN WHAT WAYS DOES THAT IMPRESSION DIFFER FROM WHO YOUR CHARACTER REALLY IS?:

He’s not arrogant, just confident. He is cocky, but it’s usually just to be a lil shit. He really can’t get through a hairy situation without making a bad joke. But he never said he was the best pilot in the Resistance. That’s something that others say about him. He makes a joke out of it when he hears it (it’s one of the comics, I don’t remember which), and the one time he says “Yes, I am” it’s to turn it around and tell a fellow pilot, “so are you.” Because the Resistance needs every flier they’ve got, and to his mind he’s nothing without his team. He hams it up on occasion, acts the fool, definitely, but he’s a hell of a lot sharper than most people suspect. His reputation for recklessness has actually benefitted him on occasion, allowing him to double-cross and outwit people who think he’s going for the obvious (usually punch-related) solution to a problem. Basically, he fosters his reputation as a smug, cocky, reckless jackass and is bemused by his growing status outside of the Resistance.

HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE CRISIS OR ADVERSITY?:

Arguably, he thrives on crises. He’s incredibly solution-oriented, demanding action of both himself and his peers. He gets frustrated and impatient with people who won’t do something if the moment requires it. While he’s an excellent commander, he needs to be balanced out by leveler heads, the kind of people who will… keep him grounded, shall we say. When he’s part of a group, he does a much better job of looking before he leaps instead of while he’s in the process of leaping. If he’s responsible for others, he’s also more likely to weigh the situation with care than if he’s acting alone. If there’s nothing he can do about a problem, he’ll find something else to work on. Whether it’s upgrading a ship or scrubbing out an entire landing bay, doing anything is better than sitting on his hands and waiting for a solution to present itself.

WHICH 5 THINGS WILL YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER UPON ARRIVAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?:
- He was captured and tortured by the First Order, and one of their leaders very literally got into his mind.
- He escaped the First Order with the help of one FINN A. MONROLL.
- His friendpet?? is a droid named BB-8
- He’s a starfighter pilot, and a damn good one.
- General Leia Organa exists and is flawless.

The first memory, because why not have a guy with amnesia remember that someone messed with his head? I think that will be a fun dynamic to play with as he starts to remember things. As for the rest, I want him to have some sense of himself and where he’s from to clash immediately with the reality around him, and have his confidence in that half-remembered background bolstered by BB-8’s presence. As far as Finn and Leia are concerned, he owes his life to the former, and would give his life for the latter, so remembering them seems like an obvious choice.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU FEEL WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?:

He’s a dork.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, & PHYSICAL WEAKNESSES:

He’s a squishy normal human, but he’s a squishy normal human with hand-to-hand combat training who’s Navy-certified with a blaster. He also really is the best pilot in the Resistance. Having been behind the stick since he was six, he has an intuitive understanding of pretty much all things airborne, and he’s really, really good at learning on the…. fly.

INVENTORY:
- An orange flightsuit, with commander rank badge, a harness, and a holster.
- one Glie-44 blaster
- one pair standard issue positive grip boots
- one flight helmet with Resistance insignia, lacquered black and red
- socks and underthings, including what is referred to on Yavin 4 as a white tank top.
- ONE-OF-A-KIND BB UNIT WITH A SELENIUM DRIVE, A THERMAL HYPERSCAN VINDICATOR AND AN INTERNAL SELF-CORRECTING GYROSCOPIC PROPULSION SYSTEM-- BB-8, it’s BB-8.
The Beebs possesses the following: Liquid cable launchers, holoprojector, arc welder (which includes both a blowtorch and a taser that I assume is not actually a taser, BB-8 does what he wants).
