Prisma Festival;
There's this hill where I'm from, highest point outside of the mountains. Gets you up above the colony lights, away from everything. Stargazer Hill, so whoever named it was pretty creative. Anyway, there's this festival every year when we're in Yavin Prime's shadow, cut off from the sun. It gets pretty cold, and there'd be water crystals all freezing in the upper atmosphere.
The night before the sun came back, we'd all head up to Stargazer Hill and light these big bonfires, cook out under the stars, make plans for the year, tell stories. Stay out all night. And then the sun would come back. All those water crystals would turn the sunrise into a something as close to magic as I thought I'd ever see.
Lit the whole moon up in rainbows. Only lasted a few minutes, but those few minutes made it the most beautiful place in the galaxy.
Snow;
I thought I was ready for it. Big hero, brand new on Hosnian Prime and going to the northern Naval Academy. I'd read about ice planets, seen holos--I thought, eh, won't be that special. My bunkmate--he was from Konkiv, which was even hotter than Yavin 4--he woke me up in the middle of the night, after the seasons started turning, and there it was, coming down. He was so excited. We both were. The way it caught the light, how quiet the world was? I'd never heard it so quiet in my life. So there we were, two jungle idiots, running outside barely wearing more than what nature gave us and we got locked out. The other guys in our room wouldn't let us back in until we sang three versus of the New Republic Anthem and our feet started turning blue.
Piracy and Civilian Defense;
[The pirates] were less exciting, after the first time it happened. He’d been eleven and one of the community buildings burned down with three people trapped inside. He’d started flying local defense when he was fifteen, and downed his first enemy shortly before his sixteenth birthday. That’s a day he’ll never forget, and not because of the short-lived triumph of victory.
Naval Academy/Military Career
The longest I've been grounded in my life was the Naval Academy. I almost dropped out, because doing flight sims instead of the real thing was driving me insane.
He accidentally played hooky from bootcamp by locking himself in a closet.
